An Affordable Oily & Acne Prone Care Routine

20 April 2018

Skincare.

I've said it once, I've said it twice but I'll say it again. I suffer really oily skin as in, by the time I've wiped off my baking powder and I've stepped out the door on a hot summers day, I've managed to oil through everything. And don't even get me started on just how bad my scarring is, I've been so self conscious about it that I rarely leave the house without makeup but now I've found a few products that have been working like a dream to the point where I feel comfortable in front of a camera without any makeup on my face. So if you feel like I do or just need something to reign in the oiliness and remove the scars I've got the products for you.

I bet half of you won't even be surprised by the fact that The Ordinary products are being featured in this blog post, yes the hype is worth it, yes they can steal my coins and yes they have made me fall in love with their products. When visiting Covent Garden I popped into the Deciem store with Sade and decided to see what the hype was about with their skincare since I had tried out their foundation already, after being pointed in the right direction for products that would help my skin I walked out the store with my bag swaying happily in the wind and my bank account still very much in tact.

Niacinamide:
This product is described as 'a potent serum designed to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes, pores and congestion by regulating sebum production'. After washing my face in the morning I like to apply this on my face then pat it in with my hands, I find that this helps with making my makeup apply smoother, stay on for longer and look brighter as well as improving my dark scars on my cheek areas especially. Niacinamide has definitely heled with improving my skin in general, it is so smooth after I finish my morning skincare routine and I love it, no bumps or lumps!

It contains zinc which is said to 'support skin structure by healing damaged skin and encouraging the production of collagen and elastin' it currently has a rating of 4.7/5 on beauty bay and I think that rating was well deserved.

Mandeic Acid:
This was the other product that was recommended to me when I was in the store. I use this at night time after washing my face and patting it dry, it is the base of my routine, I build up from this product. It is described as offering 'superficial dermal peeling that is gentler than other alpha hydroxy acids' now I have sensitive skin and it being my first time using their products didn't want to pick up the strongest thing just in case my skin didn't agree so I took this and can I just say, my skin took to it so well, it doesn't burn or hurt at all! If you find other AHAs harsh or too intense then this is definitely the one you should try next. Also if you suffer from hyperpigmentation and acne this is also for you.

I love this product the most, especially when I'm breaking out, I apply this and by the next morning I kid you not, it has gone down to pretty much nothing.

Here's a link to their website so you can check out their products, also both of these products are £5.00 and £5.80 , can you believe it?

Dead Sea Mud Mask:
The lovely people over at Ivy Beauty were kind enough to send me this facemask to try and I wouldn't include it if I didn't think this mask was good, guys this facemask on a day where I'm really breaking out? Wonders! It was building up to my time of the month and I was getting my usual sign by breaking out really badly and after popping a spot or two (I know you're not meant to, I'm trying my hardest to stop but I can't help myself) I slapped this face mask on for 15 minutes and by the time I washed it off my face had reduced in redness and the spots had dried out a lot more.

Due to the Dead Sea Mud's potent clay the mask is said to ' pull the toxins out of your skin pores, detoxify cells and offer a deep cleansing and exfoliating experience' which it does as I've explained above, it makes my skin feel like a baby's bottom and who wouldn't want their face to feel like that after a face mask? I apply this mask after washing my face and patting it dry, I use it twice a week especially on the days where I just feel really icky and run down from a hard day of revision or running about and doing things.  It has so many ingredients that are good for your skin such as:
Dead Sea Mud, Shea Butter,  Aloe Vera Juice and Green Tea Extract.

Here's a link  to the mask so you can check it out everything else they have to offer.

I'm also doing a giveaway in collaboration with Ivy Beauty so just click this link here to be in with the chance of being able to add this mask to your skincare routine.

So these are the three things that I'm using at the moment that are not only improving my skin but helping me feel more comfortable in mine. Let me know what products are working wonders for you if our skin types are similar, I'm always on the look for new products to add to my routine!

until the next post,

  1. I find it so interesting reading peoples skincare routines because even if they have ‘similar’ skin, there’s always 100 different products out there that work best for certain people. The Ordinary is my favourite brand, all their serums are incredible!! Definitely need to try this face mask out because I’ve been looking for a new one recently, loved this post girl!
