What To Do In The Build Up To Christmas

Christmas.

It's the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas. The time of year where despite it being nail bitingly cold, smiles are on the faces of nearly every person you pass, families come together and magic is in the air. Every year I look forward to the build up of Christmas because that means new winter attractions in London, new menu items in coffee shops and restaurant menus and also I can binge watch  Elf without feeling guilty because tis the season right?

I thought this year I would share my favorite things to get up to during the build up to Christmas in case you are looking for something new to do this year or if any of you are visiting London this year here is some things to add to your to do list.

1. Trek around London and see the Christmas displays:
December in my opinion is the best time of year to visit or to be in London. People go all out for Christmas which makes it pretty hard to not be in the festive mood. This picture was taken in Covent Garden which may I say, takes first place for Christmas displays this year. Pretty much every corner is decked out in decorations making it impossible to not stop and take a photo every 5 seconds.

Other places I would suggest visiting to get your fill of festivity is: Regent Street, Mayfair, Chelsea, Marylebone, South Kensington and Piccadilly.

2. Try festive menu items:
I'm someone who enjoys the extra things that come with Christmas such as the changes to menus in Starbucks and as of recently Turtlebay. The kind people over at Turtlebay were lovely enough to let me visit them and try their secret Christmas cocktail menu accompanied by their platter. I took one of my best friends along with me and she ordered the sleigh sipper (a rum-based cocktail described as being harder to order the more you drink) whilst I ordered the merry berry (berry-flavored cocktail with amaretto and baileys) There is also a third called 'Three kings' which is served with a whole cinammon stick and apparently smells like Christmas so don't be surprised, when you see me back in Turtlebay sipping on even more cocktails.

So you can now catch up with friends for drinks but make it festive. Turtlebay is one of my favorite  if not my favorite  places to go for drinks because they are strong, the happy hour price is amazing and the vibe is always great. The staff in the Colchester branch are my favorite as they're super friendly and provide the greatest service you could ask for.

(p.s. the cocktails are available till the 31st so why not carry on the festive feels till new year?)

3. Swap your favorite films and shows for festive ones:
As much as I claim to hate Christmas films, I have my favorites which I make sure I watch every year and this year netflix have released a lot of Holiday versions of some of my favorite shows such as Nailed it and Ru-Pauls drag race. One of my favorite things to do during this time of year is to put the heating on, make a cup of chai tea and snuggle up with my favorite people whilst watching something. It is such a simple but great way to share some valuable time together.

Some things I recommend adding to your 'to watch list' is: Elf, Unaccompanied minors, Polar Express, Up, Meet the Fockers ,Modern Family and Come dine with me are some of my favorite things to watch with my family at this time of year.

4. Do Christmas in London at night:
There is so much to do in London but I find doing things / visiting these places at night time is even better because there is something about the way the lights shine. Some places you need to visit / things you need to do are:

- Visit Winter Wonderland and enjoy churros whilst going on rides

- Visit Kew Garden and enjoy their trail of lights whilst sipping on mulled wine

- Visit Ballie Ballerson and play in a gold ball pit

-  Go ice skating at Somerset House / Natural  History Museum / Canary Wharf

- See the Christmas lights on Carnaby Street.

I hope this list helps you get into the festive mood this year.

What are some things you like to do in the build up to Christmas?

Until the next post,
With Love Yossy
