A Random Act Of Kindness

No matter our age, we are constantly learning lessons from our parents. Sometimes we learn the same lesson over and over and to be honest, sometimes the lesson can go over our head OR the lesson can really hit home.
On my way home from a long, tiring, day at work my dad and I were sitting and waiting at a red light when I happened to notice a man struggling through the cars and through the traffic with a cup in one hand and a walking stick in the other.

I couldn't see much from the waist down but one could only guess that he suffers from problems with his legs. Concerned about the fact that the man was struggling and the fact that the light could soon turn from red to green, I turned to my dad and brought his attention to the man.  Frantically, my dad rushed into one of his compartments to give me change and the next thing you know he's opening the door and rushing to the boot of his car.

My dad decided, out of the kindness of his heart without even a second thought, to give the man water and a packet of rich tea biscuits, I know the rich teas sound random but that's all my dad had at the time to give him. As I watched my dad, my heart warmed with so much happiness.

"You have to help people like that you know, they're suffering," is what my dad said to me when returning to the car.

I can't tell you how many different emotions I was feeling at the time! Happy, sad, proud, shocked, you name it!

In that moment I realized how one random act of kindness can make all the difference in a persons life. It's a lesson I've learnt before but one that I had forgotten. You couldn't if you tried, imagine how thankful the man was.

All because of one random act of kindness.

"BE SOFT. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place." - Kurt Vonnegut
