Self Loving

Learning to love yourself is something we all struggle with and I'd be lying if I said I've been able to master that. It's not a easy journey nor is it a short one but it's one that feels amazing every time you're able to take a step forward.

If we're being honest with each other some things I've struggled and still struggle to love at times is my skin because it's so acne prone and full of scars, my weight, my nose, how 'soft' I can be and my lack of a backbone in most situations.

So...because it's something I know affects a lot of us, I thought I'd share some of my methods I use to drown out, mute and say 'good riddance' to those unwanted and negative thoughts.

1. List Baby, List!
Sit down, grab a pen, oh and some paper! I want you to write a list of all the things you like or love about yourself. Sometimes we focus on what we hate and want to change so much that we forget we have so many amazing traits and features. Once you're done, read over your list, commit these things to your memory. Now, keep this list somewhere you'll remember so whenever you feel down, you'll have it as a reminder.

Something's I love about myself:

  • I'll do anything I can to make someone else happy
  • I'm supportive
  • I'm caring
  • My eyes
  • The fact that I want bring happiness to the lives of others
  • I'm an overcomer

2. Wake up and say to yourself: 'I am a beautiful person, on the inside and outside'.

Loving yourself starts with you. Your biggest supporter in life is you! So try cheering yourself on and believing in yourself more because the person who's also going to be most honest with you, is you. No one is perfect, we all know this, so look at your flaws and remember that they're okay because you're beautiful on the inside and outside anyway. There's no better feeling like believing in yourself.

Here's one of my favorite quotes:
"Begin your day with love (not technology). Remind yourself of your worthiness before getting out of bed. Breathe in love and breathe out love. Enfold yourself in light. Saturate your being in love."

3. Treat cho' self:
Nothing says self love like a lil' bit of TLC,  can I get an amen? So throw yourself a bubble bath girlfriend and in bath salts and all that good stuff, paint your nails (and yes definitely go for a spring time color), Netflix marathon? What are we watching tonight?

Sometimes we get so caught up in life, our stresses, being an 'adult' that we don't take time to relax and reward or body or minds in such simple ways! It's funny how doing little things like this can make changes in your mood.

4. Forgive & Forget:
We all make mistakes but if we take from the situation then there's a lesson learnt. Mistakes are the first step in learning so don't be so hard on yourself for not being 'perfect' because to be honest with you no one really is.

5. Toxic Waste:
Get rid of any negative or toxic energy you have festering around you, you do not need people who make you feel anything less than amazing in your life. Take hold of your relationships and surround yourself with positive people who love you, for you.

6. Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner:
Achieved something? Lost a pound? Kicked anxiety in the butt? Passed a test? Celebrate! Any achievement big or small, celebrate and be proud of the amazing things you're capable of doing.

And last but not least...

7. Remember you're not alone:
Everybody and I mean EVERYbody has and has had moments where they feel conscious, embarrassed or down about a feature of theirs. So no you're not a bad person for having these thoughts because they're completely normal!

I promise you that one day you'll see yourself for the beautiful, amazing and great person you are, it just takes time sometimes.

Until the next post,
With Love Yossy x

  2. This is such a lovely post! I struggled with self love for a while but doing a happiness planner in my bullet journal has helped me so much 💖 I'm sure a lot of people will be helped by this post 💖

  3. Sometimes it's the reminder of the small things we can do to make ourselves feel better that makes all the difference. I was really good with self care in February, but I fell off the wagon a lot this month, so I'm gonna use some of these tips to hopefully get back on track again. Thank you so much. This blog post is so useful!

  6. YES GIRL! This post is so important! Like you, I've struggled a lot with self love in the past but I am getting there! I definitely agree about treating yourself and congratulating yourself when you achieve something! It's often the hardest to recognise your own achievements, so this post is the push a lot of us will need to do so!

  8. I love this post, it's so honest. I find a lot of post about self love make it sound like it's *so easy*, when it's really not. I can really relate to this one :)

  9. I love love this post. Simple and straight to the point. Particularly love your note of treat yourself. I ascribe to that. Once in a while, I get myself gifts to say, "well done". It's very necessary.

  10. self love is something I try and focus on. I'm rather independent, so I make sure that I am always doing my best and after a stressful week of classes and work, I let myself watch some netflix. Thanks for this post Yossy
