The Pressures Of Being A Young Adult.

Being a young adult to put it simply, is confusing.

Before I begin this post I just want to let my good friends at Disney know that, I will never forgive them for the dreams they sold me growing up as child. Life really isn't a high school musical, it's more than your crush not liking you back, it's more than not having a seat at the cool kids table.

To put it honestly being a young adult is:

- a constant battle with your mental health
- putting too much pressure on yourself to be successful
- comparing yourself without meaning to
- trying to figure out what comes next in your life
- trying to live the life you want and not what others want/expect you to

I guess the purpose of this post will be to calm the minds and souls of those of you who feel like you fall into any of those categories. A conversation I had with my mother and sister inspired this post because this summer I said that I would spend time working on the things I'm passionate about, building on ideas I've had, getting things up and running.

It's hard, it really is when you have a plan to be successful but things don't really work out or nothing is happening. You're trying, you're passionate, you are putting the work in but nothing is changing in your life. Disappointment is something you're coming accustomed to. But everyone else around you seems to be achieving something right? They're already ten steps ahead, if only you could just have this one break through then maybe...

Snap out of it.

This is where trusting God comes into practise, anytime an inkling of worry or doubt comes into mind regarding your future, what you want to do in life or a choice you made say: God, I can't see what you have in store for me yet but, I'm going to trust you and when you deem me ready you will reveal to me your plans for me. Leave all your worries to God.

"But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfectly and fully developed, lacking in nothing (James 1:4)."

"To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven ( Ecclesiastes 3:1)."

The people that you compare yourself to, remember and remind yourself of the fact that they too would have had to wait for God's timing in their life.

We are young, why are we putting so much pressure on ourselves? Yes it's good to want to be successful, yes it's good to want to build an empire for ourselves but lets not forget to also enjoy our youth before it runs out. Call up your friends and go out, take that trip you always wanted to go on, try out that class you saw online. Do it! Create memories for yourself to look back on. Growing up I've come to realise that one thing that really has kept me going is the memories I've made in the pass, remembering just how great life was and can be when we say yes to enjoying life.

Lastly, a piece of advice. I can't stress this enough, please live your life for you. It's very easy to mould our lives around what family, friends and the media says but no plan or idea is impossible if you tell him your dreams and desires. Whatever you want to do in life, go for it, make a plan and put it to action. Do not waste days, weeks, months or even years of your life being unhappy when you could be creating/building a life you love. Learn to be selfish and focus on your needs, too often we think about how people will react, what people will say and we let that shape our life. Don't. Ignore them and shock them with success.

To end I'll leave you with this quote from Joyce Meyer Ministries: God causes things to happen at exactly the right time! Your job is not to figure out when, but to make up your mind that you won't give up until you cross the finish line and are living in the radical, outrageous blessings of God! The more you trust Jesus and keep your eyes focused on Him, the more life you'll have. Trusting God brings life. Believing brings rest. So stop trying to figure everything out, and let God be God in your life.
